Talent management and succession planning

Introduction

This Learning Guide was written by Marcus Powell of Ashridge Consulting, with contributions by Guy Lubitsh, also of Ashridge Consulting; Sue Honor?? and Eddie Blass of Ashridge; together with Bob Jack, a management consultant. It is one of a series produced by the Learning Resource Centre. Each guide sets out to give you a quick summary of the main theories on a particular topic backed up by a practical commentary based on Ashridge's long experience of consulting, research and teaching on management issues. We hope that it whets your appetite for more information. The guide points you in the direction of other sources such as key books, articles, videos and websites.

Where to start

Begin by reading through the overview and browse the development activities which give a number of practical ideas to begin a review of talent management in your organisation.

Once you have read through the overview section, test your knowledge by attempting the short quiz.

If you have a little more time, have a look at some of the recommended resources and take a look at the book summaries of "The War for Talent", "Managing Talented People', and "How to Become a Talent Magnet". In addition read the short Bloomsbury summary "Return on Talent".
